CanonicalのMark Shuttleworth氏が「Introducing the HUD. Say hello to the future of the menu.」において、4月のリリースが予定されている「Ubuntu 12.04 LTS」に新しいメニューUIを導入する計画であることを発表した。この新しいメニューUIは、「HUD (Head-Up Display)」と呼ばれている。
